Never dreamed I'd be blogging from the hospital!! Well, we've spent the last 5 days at Children's Medical Center in Dallas! Peanut started having blood in her urine on Friday night (3/7/08) & by Saturday morning (3/8/08) it looked like coffee it was so dark. J-bird (my best friend!), Peanut & I went to Urgent Care & they sent us straight to the ER. Thank goodness Mimi had stayed with Little Miss at home! Darling met us there & the ER almost sent us home with an antibiotic & directions to follow up with our regular dr....but at the last minute they decided to transfer Peanut by ambulance to Children's ER & let their specialists take a look at her. God definitely protected her! She has Post Strep GN...which basically means that the strain of strep she has, produced antibodies that attacked her kidneys causing significant damage & the bleeding. Because of the damage her kidneys could not flush fluids out of her body properly which caused her blood pressure to go up.....to be continued!! I need to get back to Hannah...I promised her we would finish watching Lady & the Tramp when she woke up! Hopefully we'll be sent home tomorrow!!
Ok....I'm finishing this post up from home!! It's now 3/13/08 & we were sent home this morning! 6 days in the hospital & all 3 of us are SOOOOO glad to be home again! So to pick up where I left off....Hannah's fluid retention was causing her blood pressure to go up which caused her kidneys not to function properly & get rid of the extra fluid which caused her blood pressure to go up which caused her kidneys not to function properly & get rid of the extra fluid....you get the idea! So they started her on blood pressure meds & she responded to them slowly & so we waited 3 days for her pressures to become normal again! She's at home now but she'll be healing for 1-6 months. We are taking her blood pressure twice a day & she is on a low sodium diet for at least 2 months....we'll also be seeing a kidney specialist to check her kidney function in about a month. We are so thankful that the Lord's hand was covering Peanut & guiding her doctor's to the right diagnosis! (her high blood pressure, left untreated, would have resulted in kidney failure) Below are a few pics from our hospital stay.
